Description

Cal Botterill Legacy Lecture

Guest Speaker
Dr. Curt Tribble
University of Mississippi
Presenting: The Mental Strategies of Surgeons & Applied Psychology and High Performance.

Our Emergency Medicine Department has been invited by the Sport Psychology Department, Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba, to be a formal co-sponsor of the Cal Botterill Legacy Lecture. This year on September 15, 2010 from 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., in the HSC Th. A, the guest speaker will be a well-respected cardiothoracic surgeon from the University of Mississippi, Dr. Curt Tribble.

The Sport Psychology Department is graciously extending this invitation to the medical community following its Department's work on a "High Performance Curriculum" with the Emergency Medicine residents. The presentation will be held at HSC in order that this opportunity is easily accessed by medical students, residents, staff, administration, and interested others.

Dr. Curt Tribble has been asked to share his experience on the topic of "Effective Mental Strategies for Physicians." Some of the critically important strategies which will be addressed include "focus, distraction control, optimism, teamwork, and the ability to deal effectively with uncertainty"---all extremely relevant in the pursuit of excellence in any medical arena. Dr. Tribble's perspectives have been incorporated into the Emergency Residents' High Performance Physicians' curriculum and the residents in their final evaluation outlined a new healthier perspective on both their professional careers and their own personal lives.
